As part of Camden’s Safe & Healthy Streets programme, the latest proposals involve altering traffic flows from Fleet Road to prevent left turns onto Parkhill Rd. and stop turns into Fleet Rd. from Lawn Rd.
This is supposedly “to improve road safety on Fleet Road, outside Fleet Primary School, and on the residential streets between Fleet Road and Haverstock Hill. We also want to make it easier, safer and more enjoyable for people walking, wheeling and cycling to travel in the area.”
No evidence is provided of current problems to justify the need to do something – this seems to be a solution without a problem. We think it will actually make the situation outside the school worse by increasing traffic flows, resultant pollution and congestion. And it will certainly increase traffic in the narrow local roads like Tasker Rd, Garnet Rd, Lawn Rd, Downside Cresc.
It may also compound the unknown effects of the soon to be implemented South end Green and Fleet Rd. bus stand changes which do not seem to have been considered.

We are worried that these various schemes seem to be dealt with piecemeal without any overall strategy and understanding of the cumulative and knock-on effects.
Many of these expensive alterations appear poorly judged and unpopular with local residents. We are concerned at the lack of evidence presented detailing the need for change.
The consultations often seem box-ticking exercises, the analysis not supportive and the decisions pre-determined. We think Camden should do better.
