New electric vehicle (EV) charging points on streets are normally welcomed but not to some residents of Antrim Grove and Antrim Road off Haverstock Hill and England’s Lane.
While they stressed their support for the growing number of drivers switching to electric vehicles they say the plan by Trojan Energy for 10 charging points is “over-kill” on their narrow two-way street with a very tight “L-shaped” corner adjacent to a children’s playground.
Though the EV technology would be underground and the connectors flush with the pavements, that hasn’t lessened the concern “Three EV points would be fine for this street but 10 ? “said one resident. Another resident expressed support for the charge points : “I don’t have a car but if I did, I would be all in favour of the EV plan”.
Most properties have no possibility of off-street charging and most are flats in this location, so have to rely on public charge-points. Unlike the larger roadside chargers with dedicated parking bays, neither these pavement connectors, nor the lamp-post outlets change the existing parking arrangements, so nobody should lose out.
Camden Council will make their decision following the current consultation.
Belsoc is of course supportive of increasing the take-up of EVs in order to improve our local environment (air quality, noise etc) but what should be the ‘correct’ number of EV charge-points in our area?
